Christmas Storm by Nancy Bell:

This humourous romance is set in the real life town of Longview, Alberta. All the characters, with the exception of The Travelling Mabels, are figments of my imagination. The Travelling Mabels are a trio of singer songwriters who are releasing their second CD on June 12, 2011. The Mabels have graciously agreed to allow me to include them in Christmas Storm in the scene where Michelle and Cale go to a Christmas concert at East Longview Hall. Mary, an older mother figure in Michelles life, is a consumate matchmaker. Mary decides it would suit her purposes if Michelle’s truck disappeared during the concert. Cale, the new vet who Michelle dislikes on sight, is also duped by Mary and finds himself seated next to Michelle instead of Doc, Mary’s husband and Cale’s new partner. Needless to say, Cale drives Michelle home, he only lives across the coulee from her ranch so it’s not even out of his way. There are lots of ups and downs on the road to true happiness, Michelle just isn’t sure she can keep the truck on the road with the shiny side up.

Loren Weaver book cover

Biography: About Loren:

I’m Loren Weaver, and I’m glad you’re here! Let me tell you a little about me.

To start, I’m not a full time writer. I have a BS in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In my day job, I’m an engineer.

In my free time, I’m a personal fitness coach. I enjoy helping other people reach their health goals, which is more than just ‘lose 10 pounds.’

I’m currently working on a MA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University because I want to become a better writer. It’s slow going, but I’m learning a lot that I’m trying to apply to my stories. I’ve been writing since I was eleven, in one form or another. I like to think I’ve gotten a little better at it.

I’m a paranormal junkie. So most of my stories and a lot of the books I read are in that genre. I enjoy looking into the history of the paranormal myths and some of the modern twists. I’m also an avid reader and will discuss a good book all day long.

Interesting facts about me? I love crazy sports and have my black belt in Tae Kwon Do, master SCUBA diver certificate, and motorcycle license. I dream of setting foot on all seven continents before I die.

Hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better!

A fresh start to the week.

I hope you are all having an amazing day today!
I’m working on my third novel this morning. I’ve written about 7,000 words so far, but want to try and finish the next few chapters today.
I’m trying not to be distracted by the pile of paperwork in my studio, or the fact that my tea is cold and I really want to jump up and get a fresh one. I know that if I leave my desk, I will find another twenty things I could be doing. Once I start writing, I get so entwined with my characters, that I forget the outside world for a while. I have a good idea of how my story will flow from start to finish, but as I write it, the characters sometimes veer off with a will of their own. It’s an adventure!

Customer reviews:

1. ‘THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC! The writing was impeccable, the storylines were awesomely intriguing and I could envision myself in the theater, popcorn spilling all over the guy next to me, as I jumped, screamed and held on to his arm through each magnificent (and at times, terrifying) moment. I want this book to be turned into a movie! To me, that is what makes for great writing. SHADOW is a harsh story and at times, some might consider it to be an extremely harsh read. There was unspeakable violence in this book, there was profanity and there were sex scenes, but all of these made this story the perfection it turned out to be. There was just the right mix of each, and the author could not have written any of it any other way, without doing incredible disservice to her perfectly crafted characters.’

2. ‘I read a lot of Indie fiction not looking for ‘Diamonds in the rough’, but rather to find interesting books without the staid characters, formulaic plots and over-edited writing. This book epitomises what I enjoy and made for a great fun read; human, raw, angry, lively, original, vengeful, at times violent, other times erotic, and sometimes both violent and erotic!’

‘It’s a revenge story at it’s heart, but Ms D’Chae has put a lot of effort to develop characters who have depth, background and purpose, and the result is a delightful mix of friendship, action, sex and obviously a fair degree of violence. She writes scenes which are surprisingly visual, too, with page turning action, arousing erotic scenes where the pheromones almost drip from the page, and heartfelt human interaction with honest dialogue. The result is a good story, well written and the establishment of some characters we’ll surely see more of in future … and I’ll be there to read them too.’

Fo’ shizzle!!—(just kiddin) Trying to find a balance with volunteering at the high school where my youngest daughters attend; working and spending time with my grandbugs has kept my life a constant whirlwind.

I have lived in Southern Louisiana all of my life. Living in a city right outside of New Orleans had gotten old. We have lived here for a little more than 10 years and have grown to love the small town living. The older three? Yeah, they followed us! Their families in tow, we are all within minutes of each other. (I know—they never go away!) Gotta luv ’em!! I know I do.

Eventually, I found time for myself and the nagging voices locked inside the vault in my mind. With several ideas swirling around, the most persistent voices won! I would like to introduce you to my very frist YA Novel: Fool Me Once. Now, I have completed book 2!!! Go me! Enter Eternity took me travelling to places I never thought I could go and I must say — it was a ride I didn’t want to get off — may be back on it again soon! *hint* *hint*

Fool me once: Sneak peak.

1 – DRIVE

Shelby watched, frozen, as the white SUV came screeching around the corner, careening out of control. She knew it was moving too fast. Callie, her best friend, would not have time to get out of the way. The brakes on the truck squealed, leaving black skid marks on the street. It was too late. The scene unfolded as Shelby cried out from the curb. “Callie! No! No!”

Callie whipped her head around only in time to scream. One second they were racing across the street; the next, Shelby, three steps ahead, turned and watched in horror as Callie was struck. Her limp body flew over the hood of the SUV, spiraling through the air like a rag doll. She smashed head first into the windshield, shattering the glass with a gut-wrenching crunch. Her small body twitched then slowly slid down the hood, leaving a blood trail behind, landing on the concrete with a thud.

Screaming from where she stood, covering her mouth to hold back the bile rising in her throat, warm tears streamed down Shelby’s cheeks. She desperately wanted to run to Callie but her legs held, locked in place. The knot in her stomach made her want to retch at the sight of her best friend’s blood draining from her body. Callie’s lifeless body lay in the middle of the road.

Shelby lowered her head, her eyes focused on her feet where she had unknowingly dropped her books. On top was her school’s homework ledger opened to a new page. The date, without anything written on it for homework yet, was Tuesday, April 23rd. In a trance, she looked up to see a young boy with strawberry blond hair carrying a skateboard standing on the opposite side of the street with a terrified look on his face. She begged him with her eyes to move, to help, to save Callie. In that instant, he was simply gone. Shelby glanced back to Callie’s still body. She dropped to her knees, crying out for her. “No, Callie. Please, no.”

Shelby snapped awake, the visions of her dream still fresh in her mind. Grabbing her neck, she could feel her silent scream locked in her throat. At age eleven, this was the first time she had dreamt of someone’s death. Not Callie, not Callie echoed inside of her head. I can fix this! I know I can fix this! Shelby sprang from her bed. Her dream was specific this time; it would happen today; Tuesday, April 23rd.

Shelby learned at an early age that she had an unusual gift. Her dreams foretold future events. She didn’t believe it was a gift at first – not until she learned how to alter the outcomes. Simple things she successfully changed in the past didn’t seem to matter. Her faked appendix attack saved her dad from a broken leg during a skiing accident, but that was different. This was her best friend’s life. Her body trembled as her mind raced with thoughts of how she would prevent her friend’s death. There was a chance she could alter Callie’s fate.

A simple stomach ache would not save Callie. Callie would die if Shelby didn’t stop her. She didn’t know if she could change any of the events that would unfold that day but she was determined to at least try. She would tempt fate in hopes that her friend would be spared.

The two girls were best friends and alternated going to each others’ house after school. They would meet on the corner where, according to her dream, Callie would be struck. Shelby had to persuade Callie to meet her somewhere other than their usual spot before the end of the day. Her heart seemed to be pounding out of her chest as she dressed for school. She quickly gathered her schoolbag, let her mom know the plan to go to Callie’s house today then headed to school. Confident that she would see Callie in the one class they had together or at lunch, Shelby felt a little more at ease.
