Noun.
Meaning:
A condition characterized by frequent and uncontrollable periods of deep sleep, sometimes accompanied by hallucinations.
Narcolepsy is seldom fatal but has been known to last for years.
I suppose it could be fatal if you fell asleep behind the wheel?
