Introducing Lorna Suzuki

It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to an author who I met whilst networking on social media, Lorna Susuki. Lorna also runs a popular blog and I was lucky enough to be interviewed there, just over a week ago. Lorna is having her work adapted for a cable television series, which sounds so exciting and I can’t wait for you to all find out more about this talented lady.

Meet Lorna.

After multiple, failed bids at world domination, Lorna Suzuki was forced to create a fantasy world where she reigns supreme… until her characters orchestrated a military coup!

With over 35 years in the field of martial arts, she is a 5th degree black belt practitioner/instructor of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, an ancient fighting system incorporating 6 traditional samurai schools and 3 schools of ninjutsu.

As a freelance writer, she has tackled everything from biographies to scriptwriting for an adventure travel series. When it comes to fiction writing, she is best known for the 10-novel epic adult fantasy series, the Imago Chronicles. The first three Imago novels are currently being adapted for a cable TV series. She also co-wrote with her daughter, Nia Suzuki-White, the 5-novel YA fantasy series, The Dream Merchant Saga.

In writing the Imago Chronicles series she created a female protagonist, one that is reluctantly accepted into the brotherhood of warriors. Drawing on her own experiences as a woman in the once male-dominated field of law enforcement and martial arts, she brings the female warrior, Nayla Treeborn, to life.

When Lorna is not murdering her characters or destroying entire civilizations with a few keystrokes, she is either mangling people into submission, puttering in her garden or baking delectable pies and other tasty treats.

Introducing Victoria Cooke.

Today it’s my great pleasure to introduce you to author Victoria Cooke. She is sharing with us how she fell in love with books and writing and where the inspiration for her stories come from.

It Started Victoria Cooke Image  Firstly, I’d like to say a huge thank you to you, for welcoming me onto your blog.

I’ve been daydreaming for as long as I can remember. My year four teacher once suggested that I should write stories when I grew up and since I’ve always (mostly) done as I was told, here we are. As a child, I loved reading. My mum used to take my sister and me to the library, and I couldn’t get enough of that excited feeling of cracking open a new book. I was the child who hid under the covers with a torch and then imagined I was in a story when my mum confiscated it.

Fast forward a significant number of years and not much changed. My passion for writing began when I used to own a small clothing boutique on the outskirts of Halifax. I had the business for just under a year and it was that summer that was incredibly wet (you know, the one that coincided with Rhianna’s Umbrella song?). Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had a shop full of beautiful summer clothes whilst a torrent of water gushed down the street outside for six whole weeks. Needless to say, things were quiet.

I read. A lot. The more I read, the more my own ideas started to grow and manifest until one day I couldn’t fight the urge any longer, so I took my laptop into the shop. Then I sat and typed.

I’d written about half a novel on the day my laptop was stolen. Being quite into IT at the time, I had backed it up but unfortunately for me, the USB stick was in the laptop bag which the thief also took. I’d put so much into that book that I knew I could never replicate what I’d written. All my notes were on the laptop too so I only had my memory to rely upon and I knew it was too great a task. At that point, I gave up.

By the time my children were born, writing was a distant memory. The brain fog, nappies and feeding schedule had me at full capacity for a few years and it wasn’t until my youngest started pre-school I realised I had the time to do something for me. I had the seed of an idea; technology and our reliance upon it. Then I started thinking about how we’d cope if suddenly our devices were taken away. How would we cope? I have sweats just thinking about it! Anyway, I started playing around with ideas and genres before settling on romantic comedy. That’s how ‘The Secret to Falling in Love’ was born.

From there, I’ve used many of my own experiences (usually travel orientated) to write my four other books. I’ve never attempted to re-write the book I lost because in hindsight I don’t know if it had enough mileage in it (certainly not the bits I remember at least). I am however grateful to that book because I think I was a bit naive back then and it probably wouldn’t have got past the slush pile if I’d even fathomed where to send it to. That could have led me to give up. Instead, my takeaway was: ‘I almost wrote a book one and I could do it again with a bit of effort’.

‘They’ do say things happen for a reason.

Author Bio :

Introducing Rosie Dean.

It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to romantic fiction author, Rosie Dean, today. Rosie is a fellow member of The Romantic Novelists Association and I can’t wait to find out what you think of her fabulous work. I absolutely love receiving the author photos I request, as they say so much about the writer’s personality. Here you can see Rosie with her cover designer, Joe Brown, in one photo and another with her dog Dillon, in Spain.

Meet Rosie:

Although Rosie Dean has been writing stories and plays since she was big enough to type she came to full-time fiction writing after teaching art and pottery in high schools, and then writing marketing materials for the corporate world.

Now, happily inhabiting the imaginary world of her characters, Rosie loves to write sassy, romantic fiction with a sense of humour and, sometimes, a sense of the ridiculous – because we all know life and love aren’t exactly how we’d like them to be.

Rosie often draws on her past experiences for the content of her books; Vicki is a teacher of art, Gigi is a sculptor, Millie works in marketing but runs an amateur dramatic group for teenagers in her spare time, and Chloe is trying to save a theatre from being bulldozed.

Each heroine is looking for her hero, and her search is invariably fraught with chaos, drama and some amusing misunderstandings.

Rosie is lucky enough to split her time between southern Spain and the Isle of Wight – where she set her latest book, Gigi’s Island Dream.

Rosie has four romantic comedies available on Amazon which you can buy via her author page:       http://www.amazon.com/Rosie-Dean/e/B00GML9CU0

Introducing Miriam Drori.

Introducing Miriam Drori.

Hello, Lizzie and Lizzie’s readers. I’m delighted to be here. Here are a few of the things that distinguish me from other authors. I didn’t grow up wanting to be a writer; there are reasons for that. I studied Maths at university and worked as a computer programmer and later as a technical writer. I live in Israel, having emigrated from the UK. I suffer from… make that: live with… social anxiety, but nevertheless love giving presentations. I go dancing (folk dancing) three times a week. My books are all different: romance, historical fiction, non-fiction.

Blurb for Social Anxiety Revealed

Fear of other people? Most of us feel this occasionally, when giving a presentation or being grilled in a job interview. This is not social anxiety disorder.

Fear of what other people think of you? We have all felt this, too. It is why we dress as we do and generally try to behave in a way that is expected of us. This is not social anxiety disorder either.

But when those fears become so prevalent that they take over your life? When they cause you to hide away, either literally or by not revealing your real self? When you keep quiet in an attempt to avoid those raised eyebrows and the possible thoughts behind them? That is social anxiety disorder.

And it is much more common than you might think. In the mental health table, it comes third – after alcoholism and depression – and yet most people don’t even know it exists.

If you have social anxiety disorder, this book is for you.

Even if you don’t have social anxiety disorder, you might have a friend, a relative or a work colleague who does. You might see it developing in your son, your daughter, or a child you teach. This book is for you, too.

Social Anxiety Revealed is created by people who yearn to ditch all these problems and live their lives to the full.

SEO and time saving tips for authors.

Hello everyone. I hope you had a relaxing weekend. For my Monday Marketing post today, I thought I’d offer some tips on something that can really save time for other bloggers and website owners who might be promoting your work, and hopefully improve SEO rankings on blog posts and website articles.

I found out years ago about the importance of naming your photos. I have blogged about this many times but it still happens a lot and it’s a simple thing to change. When people send me photos to appear on my blog, or social media feeds, they sometimes send them titled image001 image201 Book cover 4, picture in Spain etc! When Google search for content, they are always looking for something original, not only should you add your own content to posts to make them stand out and fly up the rankings, but the titles that you give your photos are so important. Not only do they register as the name of the photo and not another image001 or book cover 4, but they stand as an original image that you have given a name to. For example, I have called this photo, Lizzie Chantree author photo:

Featured Image -- 6554

This means that if I send this picture to someone to use on their website, they don’t have to spend hours trawling through photos to try and find the one I have sent them that they saved to their blog posts file, or other author files ages ago. They can simply search for photos with my name and all of the picture I have sent them will appear. If I am searching for a book cover an author has sent me earlier in the month that I have saved to an author file, I can easily spot the book’s name, but there might be over 100 book covers 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc. Simply naming your photos when you save them to your computer saves bloggers, website owners and anyone sharing your work a lot of time and energy and it also helps Google to recognise it. This means that they might be more likely to keep photos that aren’t clogging up their computers and confusing them with the same names and perhaps when they are uploading someone else’s photos to a blog post, they might think of you again as you are so easy to work with and provided professional content, that they can simply search for and find. Have an amazing week everyone!

Introducing Angela Wren.

Today’s guest is author Angela Wren. Angela is a really supportive fellow author who is always happy to offer advice and who writes fabulous novels. I ask my introducing guests to send me a photo that shows their personality, so I really enjoy seeing what they send across.

Meet Angela.

Having followed a career in Project and Business Change Management, I escaped to work as an Actor and Director ata localtheatre.  I’ve been involved with theatre since I was 6 years old.  Getting rid of the job meant I could work in theatre more meaningfully and begin my journey towards publication.  I’ve always loved stories and I am an avid reader.  Writing my own stories seemed a natural progression to me and I began working towards this goal in 2005.

My novels are set in the Cévennes in south-central France.  It’s a rugged upland area, sparsely populated, with spectacular scenery and tiny villages and towns with a fascinating history.  I write cosy crime and my investigator is Jacques Forêt.  A steely and determined ex-cop who won’t give up until he gets the culprit.  I also write short stories, comic flash-fiction and have drafted two one-act plays that have been recorded for local radio.

Introducing author Paula Williams.

INTRODUCING…..  PAULA WILLIAMS

Paula Williams has been writing for as long as she can remember.  As a child she churned out plays and pageants, which she would then bully her unfortunate younger brothers into appearing in, something they still claim to be traumatised by to this day!

PWLyme.jpeg

For the last ten years she’s had a very successful career writing short stories and serials for magazines.  But her great love is crime fiction, both writing it and reading it.  She has done so since the age of 12 when her mother first introduced her to Agatha Christie.  She lives in Somerset, (UK), where her debut crime novel, Murder Served Cold, (the first in the Much Winchmoor Mystery series) is set.  In fact, the village of Much Winchmoor bears an uncanny resemblance to the village she lives in – although none of her neighbours are ruthless murderers… as far as she knows!
