Expect humour, a dollop of banter and ridiculous rants here and there. Amongst other delights, witness the strange antics of a swan posing by a bin and two statuesque horses appearing like arc deco pieces in a field. Introducing D.I. Finn.

I’m absolutely thrilled to showcase this talented author today. She’s a wonderful lady and I met her when I became a member of the #RRBC book club. She shows endless support to others and it’s my great pleasure to tell you more about her latest work today.

Thank you, Lizzie, for having me on your blog today to help celebrate the release of my first poetry book, “Just Her Poetry Seasons of a Soul.”

Finn Facts:

  1. My grandson declared after watching the Disney movie, “Moana” (and seeing the grandma come back as a stingray) that I would be a dolphin. Which is: D-L-F-I-N-N.
  2. I try to write poetry in as many places as possible, including while riding on the back of a Harley. I haven’t figured out how to write underwater when I’m snorkeling—yet.

Blurb:

Take a journey with D.L. Finn as she blends her love of nature with her deepest emotions. Sit with her on the forest floor observing its tranquil beauty, or stroll along the ocean’s shore admiring the vastness of its horizon. Here in these peaceful moments you’ll be able to experience her thoughts and feelings in the light—and in the darkness. This is a thought-provoking collection of poetry that invites the reader into all the seasons of a soul.

Excerpt from NATURE Spring and Summer

SIT ALONE

I sit alone on our deck

Blanketed in the sun’s warm rays,

The bird’s chirps and trills

Fill the silent space.

Our big black cat

Looks for his prey,

And chases away the bees

Who wander into my presence.

Our dogs lazy on their backs

In the backyard with their paws in the air,

Like a yoga pose

Welcoming the warmth.

Distant pond frogs sing their loud chorus

A lone cloud floats by,

Reminding me of the winter past

And storms yet to come.

But right now it is time to bask

In what spring has brought,

So, for this moment

I sit blissfully alone.

Introducing… Awen Thornber

Today I am welcoming author and poet Awen Thornber onto my introducing blog. Awen has had rave reviews for her work and I can’t wait for you to find out more about her.

Meet Awen

Awen Thornber

Awen is formerly a textile artist and design consultant for a craft company, she produced craft projects and articles for magazines, and had a regular craft column in the UK magazine ‘Northern Life’. She is always looking for inspiration to spark her creative mind and currently devotes her time to writing novels. Born and bred in Lancashire, England, Awen also loves walking, painting, ballroom and ballet dancing.

Foxtrot in Freshby, book blurb:  (My note: I have just read and reviewed this book and it’s fabulous!)

When dance teacher Gina Pendleton throws her cheating boyfriend out of her house, she must find a way of earning extra money to pay the bills. The obvious answer is to offer dance classes at her home, even though she knows this will incur the wrath of the owner of the local well-established dance school.

Her life becomes even more fraught when she is targeted by vandals and intruders.

After she meets Chris Jackson, it doesn’t take her long to realise that he is the man of her dreams, especially as he’s also a wonderful dancing partner.

But can she really trust him when it appears that he is hiding something from her?

Threads of Awen, book blurb:

This anthology is a collection of supernatural, uncanny or mysterious short stories and both comic and serious poems, all interspersed with short flashes of fiction.

Threads of Awen showcases the author as storyteller and entertainer.

Introducing… Jennifer Wilson.

Today I am chatting to author of Kindred Spirits: Westminster Abbey, Jennifer C.Wilson.

Introducing myself / my books…

I’m Jennifer C. Wilson, and I’m probably the person I thought least likely to ever be writing ghost stories. Actually, I’m not writing ghost stories. I’m writing stories about ghosts. It’s a critical difference for this coward, believe me! I’m a marine biologist by training, and an environmental consultant by day, which I love, but I also adore my writing life.

My favourite thing in the world is to spend a day wandering around a historical site or building, working out whose footsteps I might be walking in, and what adventures they might have got up to whilst there. Whether it’s a battlefield, castle or terraced house, it’s the people which make places fascinating to me, but it was during a visit to the Tower of London when the notion of using the ghost concept really struck me. Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of mixing and matching their favourite characters from different periods of history, and seeing who does (or doesn’t) get along? Making Richard III and Anne Boleyn friends was fabulous fun to write.

For the latest Kindred Spirits adventure, we’ve headed back to London after a quick trip north of the border to the Royal Mile, and we’re in Westminster Abbey. Now THAT was a long research day – 9-6 in those walls, soaking up so much of Britain’s history. This time, we have a tantrum of Tudors (I’m really trying to make that catch on as a collective noun…), plus plenty of Plantagenets and a suite of Stuarts. I was scared to tackle it at first, but again, it was such a fun cast to work with.

You can find the Kindred Spirits series on Amazon here, or try my timeslip novella, also featuring Richard III, here. I’ve also recently been involved in a really worthwhile charity anthology, raising money for Newcastle’s Women’s Aid, and my contribution to the anthology (here), was a Kindred Spirits Short, exploring what happens when a certain six women finally meet…

Book blurb:

On hallowed ground…

With over three thousand burials and memorials, including seventeen monarchs, life for the ghostly community of Westminster Abbey was never going to be a quiet one. Add in some fiery Tudor tempers, and several centuries-old feuds, and things can only go one way: chaotic.

Against the backdrop of England’s most important church, though, it isn’t all tempers and tantrums. Poets’ Corner hosts poetry battles and writing workshops, and close friendships form across the ages.

With the arrival of Mary Queen of Scots, however, battle ensues. Will Queens Mary I and Elizabeth I ever find their common ground, and lasting peace?

The bestselling Kindred Spirits series continues within the ancient walls of Westminster Abbey.
