Getting messy.

After looking at options available on the internet and not finding what I needed, I decided that I would make my own tablecloths for the book launch of my latest book, If you love me, I’m yours. As the book is about a family of eccentric artists, I wanted an art and love theme. I thought that it would be nice for my guests to be able to create their own are during the launch.

My solution was to grab some old colouring in books my children have grown out of and to get messy! The results are something I’m really pleased with. Firstly, I placed the colouring pages face down on a round table, then tuck them together with Sellotape and a glue stick. Next I turned them over and trimmed the edges freehand. I did the same with the inner edge. Next I lifted it all up and placed it onto a pink tablecloth that matches my book cover colour. Voila! It cost me £1 for the plastic tablecloth.

Once again I will be having gift bags with my bookmarks and some sweets inside. This will create the centrepiece of the table. I will also add small silver pots with mini felt tip pens beside each bag, so that everyone can create a masterpiece! Let me know what you think.

The Secret by Katharine Johnson.

Author Katharine Johnson.

About the author

Katharine Johnson likes writing about ordinary people in extraordinary situations. She’s passionate about old houses and the stories they have to tell. She grew up in Bristol and has lived in Italy. She currently lives in Berkshire but spends as much time as she can in the Lucca area of Tuscany. When not writing you’ll find her exploring cities, drinking coffee, playing netball badly and walking her madcap spaniel

This is the second book set at Villa Leonida, the house at the centre of The Silence which was published last year but it’s a standalone story.

In The Silence some bodies were discovered at Villa Leonida, an idyllic holiday home, during a children’s game of hide-and-seek on a family holiday. They  were found to relate back to the summer of 1992.

A year on, in The Secret, the villa has been put up for sale. Which for elderly resident Sonia can only mean one thing – that the renewed interest and gossip will lead to the discovery of her own secret which relates to that same evening at the villa in 1992.

But while she’s desperate to keep the past hidden another resident, Carlo, can’t leave it alone. He’s determined to discover the truth about a wartime atrocity in which Sonia’s mother and his own played a part.

Here’s the blurb:

Love, lies and betrayal in wartime Italy. Two girls growing up in Mussolini’s Italy share a secret that has devastating consequences. Against a backdrop of fear, poverty and confusion during the Second World War friendship is tested and loyalties divided. But a chance encounter changes everything. The girls’ lives diverge when beautiful, daring Martina marries and moves into Villa Leonida, the most prestigious house I their Tuscan village while plain, studious Irena trains to be a teacher.

But neither marriage, nor life at Villa Leonida are as Martina imagined. And as other people’s lives take on a new purpose, Irena finds herself left behind.

Decades later a tragedy at the villa coincides with the discovery of an abandoned baby whose identity threatens to re-open old wounds. While Irena’s son is determined to get to the truth, Martina’s daughter is desperate to keep the past hidden.

The Secret is published by Crooked Cat Books and is available in paperback £6.99 and kindle £1.99 here: http://thesecretjohnson

If you love me, I’m yours.

Hello everyone. My latest book, If you love me I’m yours, is now available for pre-order! I grew up with a love of art and I often paint huge landscapes in vibrant colours. My latest book is about a family of artists who paint far better than I ever could, but their passion for what they do creates all sorts of adventures and mishaps, that will hopefully make you smile.

I had a lot of fun writing this book and the cover makes me happy when I see it, as it really reflects the romance and frivolity inside. Let me know what you think! Grab your copy here.

Book blurb:

‘If you love me, I’m yours…’

Maud didn’t mind being boring, not really. She had a sensible job, clothes, and love life… if you counted an overbearing ex who had thanked her, rolled over and was snoring before she even realised he’d begun! She could tolerate not fulfilling her dreams, if her parents would pay her one compliment about the only thing she was passionate about in life: her art.

Dot should have fit in with her flamboyant and slightly eccentric family of talented artists, but somehow, she was an anomaly who couldn’t paint. She tried hard to be part of their world by becoming an art agent extraordinaire, but she dreamed of finding her own voice.

Dot’s brother Nate, a smoulderingly sexy and famous artist, was adored by everyone. His creative talent left them in awe of his ability to capture such passion on canvas. Women worshipped him, and even Dot’s friend Maud flushed and bumped into things when he walked into a room, but a tragic event in his past had left him emotionally and physically scarred, and reluctant to face the world again.

Someone was leaving exquisite little paintings on park benches, with a tag saying, ‘If you love me, I’m yours’. The art was so fresh and cutting-edge, that it generated a media frenzy and a scramble to discover where the mystery artist could be hiding. The revelation of who the prodigious artist was interlinked Maud, Dot and Nate’s lives forever, but their worlds came crashing down.

Were bonds of friendship, love and loyalty strong enough to withstand fame, success and scandal?

Hosting a book launch.

Hello everyone. This is day three of my book launch tour and the latest visit is the blog of my friend and author Suzanne Burke. To check out her post, click here.

I thought i’d also share with you some of the things I post in my tour Facebook group, which you are all welcome to join.

For my paperback launch I have made swag bags for the guests.

As my book has a Ninja theme and is set in a school playground, my launch is in a school library. People have said the swag bags look really expensive, but they aren’t, they just take time to make. I will then use the bags as centrepieces for the tables and for guests to take home. They are a great way to let the guests at my launch know more about my book.

I bought 100 white sandwich bags from a wholesaler. £7.00
I used design software and put 10 book covers on an A4 page. I printed 5 on my home computer. I then cut them out and stuck them to the front of the bags.
I bought big napkins in a bright orange colour, as they reflect my book cover. £3.50 for 125, so I have spare for the centre of tables.
In each bag I put a bag of fizzy candy mini chocolate oranges. I chose these as they fill the bags up and match the colour of my book cover. This was my biggest expense. £0.50-£0.99 per bag.
I then set up an A4 page with small book quotes about writing. I added 100 to 1 page and printed it out.
I bought packs of small lined writing pads from a shop. £1 for a pack of 5 pads.
I stuck the book quotes to the front.
I bought a pack of 50 ballpoint pens for £2
I added my book postcards with book details and buy links to the bag.
£1.20-£1.45 per bag.
